STATE CERTIFIED ENTRY LEVEL FIREFIGHTER
The City of Avon Park is accepting applications for full-time (24/48) entry level State Certified Firefighter(s). Minimum Qualifications: Certification as a firefighter II by the State of Florida Bureau of Standards and Training, State of Florida or National Registry EMT Certification, a valid State of Florida motor vehicle driver’s license and an apparatus driving certificate for CEVO or equivalent. The candidate must possess the minimum qualifications. Candidates will be required to successfully complete a Firefighters Ability Test. New Hires will have a required residency of a ten (10) mile radius of the Avon Park Fire Station, 98 S. Delaney Avenue, Avon Park, FL within 24 months of hire. This is an entry level position. Professional responsibility which includes designing, permitting, planning, organizing, the professional activities, with capital improvements to water treatment, transmission and distribution systems; wastewater treatment and collection systems; streets, and storm drainage facilities. Determines short-term and long-range needs and develops operations and maintenance plans and budgets. Assures the efficient and economical operation for the departments. Develops project specifications for public bids, performs professional engineering design in practice field, perform engineering studies and research systems and technologies to offer solutions to issues affecting City operations, develops technical policies and construction standards to safe guard public health, develops RFQs and administers other consultants, inspects construction sites and City facilities when applicable. Requires extensive experience with AutoCAD, hydraulic modeling and GIS. This position requires a BS degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering. Excellent Benefit Package.

UTILITIES SERVICE WORKER
City of Avon Park is now accepting applications for a Full-Time Utilities Service Worker. This position is responsible for performing maintenance, repairs, and installations of valves, meters, gauges and pumps. Experience with laying pipe line systems, running heavy equipment. High skill set in residential plumbing or utility distribution pipe fitting. Florida Driver’s License a must. Preference for CDL driver’s license. Applicants will be asked to preform skills test. - Reports to the City Council of Avon Park
- Salary range $80,000 to $100,000 based on 32-hour work week with Friday off
- Range DOQ $48/hour to $60/hour based on 32 hour work week

- Reviews, maintains and updates code of ordinances
- Reviews, updates, prepares, City leases, contracts
- Attends after hour meetings for the CRA, City Council, and Planning and Zoning Boards
- Prepares ordinances, utility liens, updates legal forms
- Reviews agendas and contracts
- Advises Board and acts as parliamentarian during meetings to maintain adherence to Roberts Rules of Order.
- Meets with Board members and staff to research and/or provide concerns over legal matters affecting the City
- Assist City Administration and Council on decision making
Graduation from an accredited law school with prior experience in prosecution and/or defense of criminal law issues. Membership in good standing in The Florida Bar. Knowledge of Federal, State and City laws, rules and regulations; knowledge of judicial procedures and the rules of evidence; knowledge of principles, methods, materials and practices of legal research. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Department personnel, boards, court officials and the public. Skill to draft legal documents, perform research and prepare, present and argue positions effectively. Ability to manage and prioritize routine, specialized and complex assignments and problems utilizing knowledge acquired through prior education, training, and experience. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form. Ability to adapt to an evolving and continually improving environment. Requires demonstrated ability to utilize personal computer and office software such as MS Word, MS Excel and electronic mail.

Public Safety Department Clerk – Full-Time
The City of Avon Park is accepting applications for a Full-time Public Safety Department Clerk. This position is a highly specialized clerical position that supports the Public Safety Department staff. The employee must have an understanding of Police, Fire Code Enforcement and Airport operations. An employee in this position works with minimal instructions or supervision. Minimum qualifications: High school diploma or GED equivalency, Two (2) years of experience in performing clerical duties, an equivalent combination of education and experience that is directly related to the foregoing specific requirements may be substituted, and must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.
